Bow wow wow! The Yale Club of France
le point de rencontre for Yale in France

Past Events: 2010

2004   2005   2006   2007   2008   2009

  • August 18 Whiffenpoof Concert: Over 50 Yalies turned out to hear the one and only Yale Whiffenpoof’s during their first visit to Paris in many years. The group was in fine voice as they gave a two-set concert mixed with classics and new songs. The event was generously hosted by Ambassador Charles Rivkin (’84 and a former Whiff) at his residence.

  • July 13 Annual Meeting: Fulfilling our legal obligation as an “Association 1901,” the Yale Club of France held its annual meeting. The President’s review of events this past year and the Treasurer’s report of the funds available were approved. Elections for the Club officers were also held. The current year’s officers are always listed here.

  • June 21 Yale/Harvard Awards Cocktail: Yale and Harvard held the traditional awards ceremony and cocktail at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence. Ambassador Charles Rivkin (’84) kindly hosted us our presentation of the Yale Book Award to three high school Juniors. A record 220 people attended the event.

  • June 17 Book Reading with alumni from Harvard, Princeton and Yale: Turnout was strong for a reading at The Village Voice Bookshop marking the publishing of the first in a series of literary anthologies by Ivy League authors.

  • May 27 Annual All-Alumni Cocktail at the US Ambassador’s Residence: After a hiatus of one year, this event came back with a roar. Yalies made up at least 30 of the capacity 500 person crowd, which included the host, U.S. Ambassador and Yale Graduate Charles Rivkin (’84).

  • May 18 Dinner with Martha Lufkin and the Oxford Club: Thirty Yale and Oxford grads joined together for the first time for a joint event. Art law expert Martha Lufkin (’76) delivered a fascinating speech about lawsuits filed to recover art looted by the Nazis and the broader impact of those suits on art theft laws around the world.

  • April 8 All Ivy Young Alumni Happy Hour: Numerous recent Yale grads joined young alumni from Ivy and other U.S. schools for a fun happy hour at Le Cardinale in central Paris.

  • April 6 Speech by Dean Robert Storr: For the second year in a row, the Arts Arena at the American University of Paris organized a talk by Dean Robert Storr of the School of Arts. Nearly 150 people, many of them Yalies, came to hear Dean Storr give a fascinating talk on the “Tale of Two Jeffreys – The Koons Effect and the Deitch Problem.”

  • April Admissions: For September 2010 matriculation (Class of 2014), we had seven students admitted to Yale College and all decided to matriculate. Once again, we set a record with 61 applicants from France. Nearly all of them were interviewed and we held a small reception for five admitted students. Many thanks to our interviewers and to Marguey Yates, who did a great job in her first year of coordinating interviews.

  • March 16 Yale Singing Groups in Paris: More than 40 Yalies and members of France-Ameriques enjoyed a 1½ hour concert by two of Yale’s renowned undergraduate a capella singing groups, the New Blue and the SOBs.

  • February 18 “Feb Club” Party: For the third year in a row, this revived and venerable Yale undergraduate tradition returned to Paris. Numerous Yalies young and old joined in the celebration at the wine bar La Garde Robe in the 1st arrondissement in Paris.
