- December 13 Yale-Princeton Holiday Happy Hour: Yale and
Princeton alumni got together once again to ring in the holiday
season. Great conversation and camaraderie made the evening a festive
one.
- November 21 Thanksgiving Dinner with the AUC: Over 100
alumni from numerous American universities, including many Yalies,
celebrated the most American of holidays, Thanksgiving,
with a dinner organised by the AUC.
- October 25 Speech by Dean Robert Storr: For the second time
this year, the Arts Arena at the American University of Paris
organized a talk by Dean Robert Storr of the School of Arts. Once
again, there was a full house, including many Yalies who came to hear Dean Storr give
a talk on “September”, a painting by Gerhard Richeter (created in
response to the events of September 11, 2001), and Storr’s own book,
“September” about the painting.
- October 10 Intra School Alumni Happy Hour: Yalies were well
represented at a crowded happy hour for U.S. and French school alumni at
the swank Bristol Hotel.
- October 2 College Fair: Once again, we participated in the annual
College Fair in Paris where volunteers from the club spoke to hundreds
of high school students interested in applying to Yale College.
- September 25 Walking tour of Paris: For our first ever joint event
with the MIT Club, 25 Yalies and MIT grads participated in a walking tour
with the theme of Paris under the Nazi occupation.
- August 9 Whiffenpoof Concert at Paris Plage: Over 20 Yalies
and their friends showed up at Paris Plage where the all-male senior a capella
group the Whiffenpoof’s gave a free concert. Hundreds of
enthusiastic passers-by stopped to listen. Thanks to all the alumni
who agreed to host the Whiffenpoofs during their stay in Paris.
- July 5 Annual Meeting: Fulfilling our legal obligation as an
“Association 1901,” the Yale Club of France held its annual meeting.
The President’s review of events this past year and the Treasurer’s
report of the funds available were approved. Elections for the Club
officers were also held. The current officers are always listed here.
- June 30 Yale/Harvard Awards Reception: Yale and
Harvard held the traditional awards ceremony and cocktail at the U.S.
Ambassador’s residence. Ambassador Charles Rivkin (’84) kindly hosted
our presentation of the Yale Book Award to three high school Juniors.
Over 40 Yalies attended the event.
- June 14 Yale Glee Club in Paris: Everyone wanted to shout
“Gaudeamus Igitur” as the Yale Glee Club gave two concerts on the same
day in Paris while retracing the steps of a 1928 tour.
- June 9 Annual All-Alumni Cocktail Party at the Hotel Talleyrand: Yale
had the largest turnout of any alumni club at this annual favorite. This
year the event was held in the newly restored Marshall Center in the Hotel
Talleyrand on the Place de la Concorde. The host was U.S. Ambassador and
Yale Graduate Charles Rivkin (’84).
- May 16 Red Hot & Blue: one of Yale’s coed a capella
singing groups regaled a group of alumni and the public at a concert
at the Shakespeare and Company
bookshop in Paris.
- April 7 Multi School Alumni Happy Hour: Yet another great
happy hour, this time for young alumni organized with various other U.S.
colleges.
- April 5 Speech by Dean Robert Storr: For the third year in
a row, the Arts Arena at the American University of Paris organized a
talk by Dean Robert Storr of the School of Arts. Numerous Yalies
attended a full house to hear Dean Storr give a talk on the “Intimate
Geometries: The Labyrinths of Louise Bourgeois”.
- April Admissions: For September 2011 matriculation (Class of 2015), we
had five students admitted to Yale College. Applications from France were down
slightly (to 51) and nearly everyone was interviewed. We
held a small reception for the admitted students. Many thanks to our
interviewers and to Marguey Yates, who coordinated the entire activity.
- March 12 Guided Visit to the French National Immigration Museum:
An enthusiastic group of Yale and Wellesley alumni toured this new
museum and then adjourned to a café to discuss with Wellesley Grad
(and PhD candidate) Elizabeth Hanauer the museum’s difficult birth and
existence due to France’s complex relationship with immigration.
- February 21 Feb Club Party: For the fourth year in a row,
this venerable Yale undergraduate tradition returned to Paris. A large
turnout of two dozen Yalies feted at Carr’s pub.
- January 31 Breakfast with President Richard Levin: The Yale
Club of France had its biggest turnout in over 8 years for a breakfast
meeting with University President Richard Levin. Over 50 alumni heard
Rick talk about the great changes taking place at Yale. In addition,
there was a lively Q&A session with Levin and Yale Vice
President/Secretary Linda Koch Lorimer. Afterward, attendees were
able to mingle and meet both Levin and Lorimar.
- January 10 Multi School Alumni Happy Hour: We started off
the new year joining alumni from various business schools across the
US and France for a happy hour.
